What Can I do With an Accounting, Management or Economic Degree After Hiram?

Students are able to follow a wide variety of career paths by focusing their electives in the major.

Accounting and Financial Management

Students in the accounting and financial management major can focus on three specific areas:

  • accounting theory
  • taxation
  • auditing

In addition, students can also pursue coursework to prepare for the CPA exam.

CPA PREPARATION: 4 + 1

For students interested in becoming Certified Public Accountants, Hiram offers a distinctive program to ensure that students meet state requirements for CPA certification. As of January 1, 2000, students who elect to sit for the CPA Exam in Ohio are required to have completed 150 semester hours of college credit. To meet this requirement, Hiram offers a 4 + 1 program with Case Western Reserve University. Through the 4 + 1 program, students complete a four-year undergraduate program and earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and financial management from Hiram College. Qualified students are then admitted to the Master of Accountancy program offered through CWRU's Weatherhead School of Management. After an additional year of study, students receive a Master of Accountancy from Case Western Reserve University and are eligible to sit for the Ohio's CPA Exam.

The rigor and depth of Hiram's programs in economics, management, and accounting and financial management help our students secure positions at the nation's top graduate programs and with some of the country's most well-respected organizations. Recent grads have gone on to programs at Case Western Reserve University, the University of Chicago, The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell Law School, Carnegie Mellon University, and many others. New alums have earned positions with Butler Wick Stockbrokers, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Ernst & Young, Anderson Consulting, KPMG, and other leading organizations.
