Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Foreign Diplomas

College Board Advanced Placement (AP)

Hiram College awards credit and/or advanced standing for scores of 4 or 5 on advanced placement examinations. Credit is awarded if the subject matter of the advanced placement course is comparable to that covered in an elementary course offered by Hiram College.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Hiram College recognizes the international baccalaureate as an excellent program, consistent both academically and philosophically with the liberal arts tradition. On this basis, the College offers credit and advanced standing for those who have achieved well in the program.

Diploma and certificate recipients receive course credits (depending upon the discipline) for each higher level examination passed with a score of 5 or higher.

Foreign Diplomas and Other Examination Programs

Hiram recognizes that successful completion of some overseas secondary diplomas represents academic work beyond the level of the American high school diploma.  Therefore, students may receive college credit when presenting credentials such as the French Baccalaureat, German Abitur, and British "A-Level" results.

Course credits are evaluated on an individual basis, using course syllabi submitted by the student. The exact number and nature of course credits granted is determined by the College Registrar in consultation with the appropriate academic departments.
