Leadership Programs & Development

Our mission at Hiram College is to enable students of all ages to develop as intellectually alive, socially responsible, ethical citizens ready for leadership and for continuous personal and professional growth.

Hiram College and the Office of Campus Involvement provide a variety of opportunities for students to enhance their leadership skills and to empower them to assume roles in all forms of leadership on campus and beyond.

Individual Student Leadership Development

The Emerging Leaders Retreat

Each fall semester, the Office of Campus Involvement sponsors a weekend retreat for emerging student leaders.  Taking place off-campus, the ELR is facilitated by seasoned Hiram student leaders.  Grounded in the tenants of the Social Change Model for Leadership Development, the ELR weekend is jam packed with fun and educational workshop sessions, including a campfire and low ropes course.  Students may register to participate in mid-September.

The For SALE Workshop Series

Join us each Monday night of the 12-week!  The OCI presents a super fun and sometimes off-the-wall 45 minute workshops in one of our residence halls related to personal leadership development for those Students Acquiring Leadership Enrichment.

Case in Point

New fall 2012, Case in Point is a monthly table top conversation to be held in the dining hall from noon to 12:45 pm one Tuesday per month.  Focus will be centred on student issue-based case studies for dialogue.  Limited provisions will be made to allow participation of non-board plan students.

Student Organization Leadership Development Opportunities

Presidents' and Treasurers' Roundtable

Co-facilitated with the Student Senate Executive team, the Presidents' and Treasurers' Roundtable meets once per semester with leaders from all campus organizations. Collectively, the group discusses programming ideas and matters pertinent to the student organization and club management. Presidents or representatives of every club and organization are required to attend a session to participate in club budgeting.  Save the date... Sunday, September 16!

Student Organization Leadership Development (SOLD)

New fall of 2012, SOLD is monthly table top conversation to be held in the dining hall from noon to 12:45 pm one Tuesday per month.  The focus will center on student organization management and development topics, via case study, activity, or presentation.  Student leaders will be asked to provide topics they would like to see covered.  Limited provisions will be made to allow participation of non-board plan students.

Student Leaders Awards

Each spring semester, the Office of Campus Involvement coordinates the annual Student Leader Awards.  The Student Leader Awards honor and celebrate the achievements of our student leaders, organizations, and advisor sin the categories of Individual Leadership, Organization Awards, and Program Awards.  Honorees may self-apply or be nominated and are selected through a committee of faculty and staff members.

The 2013 Student Leader Awards will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at 2:00 pm in the Frohring Recital Hall.
