Summary of Services
The Department of Academic Services offers Peer Tutors who facilitate student learning by tutoring in specific subject areas. Any student can request a tutor for a specific subject simply by clicking the link below. Your peer tutor will then contact you to set up a tutoring time.
Student Academic Coaching
A Student Academic Coach is an upper class student who has been trained in interpersonal communication skills, campus resources, and academic study skills. Student academic coaches are able to coach peers in a variety of areas including college life, campus resources, and study skills. Skills that a coach typically assists with include creation of a weekly study schedule and semester assignment calendar, student academic coach can assist students to discover and use their personal learning style, to study and take notes more effectively.
Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Program
PASS will be offered as needed in historically challenging courses in which many students are likely to request tutors. The PASS leader is a faculty-recommended tutor, who will sit-in on the course, take notes with the current class, and will then facilitate a weekly study session based on the class material and coursework. PASS leaders may also hold review sessions for students having difficulty mastering basic concepts. If you are interested in attending a session, or would like to have PASS implemented in a specific class please contact, Frank Hemphill or Nancy Sauline at ext. 5131.
Professional Academic Coaching
Whether you are a proactive student or experiencing academic difficulties, Student Academic Services (SAS) provides the help you need to stay afloat in troubled waters! We will provide you with the academic success strategies you need for college success in a one-on-one personalized setting.
In addition, watch for the SAS sponsored Major Movie Nights and STAR Workshops to be offered throughout the year!
